No lasting rise in psychotropic use after abortion, by either method, in 67,390 Danish women

A registry cohort finds only a small first-year signal that does not survive correction, Open Dialogue misses its relapse endpoint but eases admissions, and connectivity-guided theta-burst targeting shows an early edge.

The edition in brief

A Danish registry cohort of 67,390 women having a first first-trimester abortion (JAMA Psychiatry, 1 October 2026) found a small rise in first psychotropic prescription redemption in the year after medication (IRR 1.10, 95% CI 1.02-1.19) or procedural abortion (IRR 1.09, 1.01-1.16), which lost significance after Bonferroni correction, and lower rates more than five years later (IRR 0.85 and 0.83). The ODDESSI cluster-randomised trial in England found Open Dialogue did not delay relapse after crisis (HR 0.95, 0.67-1.32) but was associated with fewer inpatient admissions and better self-rated recovery and satisfaction. A single-centre trial of accelerated theta-burst stimulation found structural-connectivity-guided targeting gave about 9 percentage points more Hamilton score reduction than the 5-cm rule at two weeks, with the difference gone by week 12. The FDA recorded a supplement to a generic clozapine application, an administrative action. Pearl: when a patient on clozapine stops smoking, levels can rise sharply.
