The MetALD thresholds are in grams per week, and patients never answer in grams. In India a standard peg of spirits (30 mL at 42.8%) is about 10 g of alcohol; a 650 mL bottle of strong beer is about 40 g; a 750 mL bottle of whisky is about 250 g.
So a man drinking three pegs most evenings is about 210 g a week — the lower MetALD threshold for men. Ask about the weekend separately; that is where most of the total usually sits.
- One peg (30 mL spirits) ≈ 10 g.
