A normal glucose test at 24 to 28 weeks does not rule out gestational diabetes developing later. When growth runs ahead of dates, or liquor volume rises, think of glucose again rather than relying on the earlier result.
- Re-check glucose status if clinical or scan findings suggest a large baby or excess liquor.
- Note the earlier screening method and its timing when you request a repeat test.
- Exclude other causes of polyhydramnios; diabetes is one of several.
- Tell the woman why a repeat test is being offered.
Why it matters
