Between scans and blood tests, a few simple questions pick up problems that treatment decisions depend on: has the patient fallen, how is their appetite and weight, how is their mood and sleep, and who is looking after them at home.
Unintended weight loss, falls and low mood are common, treatable and linked to treatment tolerance. A short structured check, repeated each visit, catches them early and prompts referral to nutrition, physiotherapy or psychological support.
- Record weight at every visit and ask about appetite.
- Ask about falls, dizziness and new weakness.
- Screen mood and sleep with a brief tool or direct questions.
- Refer early to dietitian, physiotherapy or counselling services.
Why it matters
Small problems found early are easier to treat than the ones that stop treatment.
