The pancreatic cyst features every report should state

Every pancreatic cyst report should give size, growth, duct calibre, nodules and wall features, and name the guideline used.

Follow-up decisions for pancreatic cysts depend on a short list of features, and a report that omits one forces a repeat scan or a guess. State the largest diameter and the comparison with prior imaging, giving growth per year where possible. State the main pancreatic duct calibre, whether there is communication with the duct, and the presence or absence of enhancing mural nodules, thickened or enhancing walls, and abrupt duct calibre change with upstream atrophy. Say which guideline the recommendation follows.

  • Give largest diameter and growth rate compared with prior imaging
  • State main duct calibre and any communication with the duct
  • Report presence or absence of enhancing nodules and wall thickening
  • Name the guideline behind the follow-up recommendation

Why it matters

Missing features turn a follow-up decision into a repeat scan.
